Peace Test

Defense Analyst Carl Conetta

Carl Conetta calls the invasion of Iraq "unnecessary ... unwise, and illegal." As the co-director of think tank Project on Defense Alternatives, he regrettably says that the US cannot leave Iraq for at least 12 to 15 months. The troop surge has only acted as a stop-gap procedure, temporarily producing peace; Conetta sees a solution in reaching out to other countries that have a stake in Iraqi security and regional peace. Because he is skeptical of an independent Iraqi government, he recommends multi-national forces to remain in Iraq. Conetta makes his point clearly, though he mixes in a fair share of platitudes about "positive change."
